Meet the Committee

'Hello and welcome' from the new committee for the 2009/2010 year.

Megan

megs3 I became a committee member in September 07, and I've had so much fun that I've volunteered again for another year. I get so much out of alba, and get truly inspired by the fabulous women who attend the events, that it would be a shame to stop now.

I'm currently self employed as a Software Development Manager, specializing in Business Analysis, Software Testing and Project Management.

Kathleen

Kathleen I appreciate the support that alba has given me over the years. alba is a good place to socialise and meet new women, hear stimulating speakers, find out whats happening and even to play the occasional game or two!! So as I said in September 07 when, I joined the committee I thought it was time I did my bit!

I've been really impressed with how old and new committee members have worked together, at times at speed, for example, when needing to find a new venue with less than a week to go to the next meeting. Plus we've had the chance to update the logo and to develop a website. We¢â¡Áre now looking forward to developing some new events. So they're stimulating times.

I work for myself as a planner, policy analyst and facilitator, mainly for the public sector. I'm also interested in transport and sustainability issues.

Wendy

alba is unique in that it is one of the few successful lesbian organisations to have survived for over five years. I have enjoyed being able to contribute by being on the committee for the past four years and to have had the opportunity to form close working/friendship relationships. It's great fun, informative, provides a place for us to be and is a fertile meeting ground!

I have a small business (homeco interiors) providing a service to clients who seek advice when refurbishing or creating new interior spaces, working mainly in areas such as colour, lighting (interior and landscape) and furnishing packages.

Jilly

Jilly I have been involved in Early Childhood Education for all of my working life. I started as a kindergarten teacher for many years and was active in the union during that time to advocate for better quality education in the early years, including better funding. We have now got there and I am now working for the Ministry of Education managing the early childhood work in the Northern Region.

Linde

Linde I first joined the alba Committee in September '06 after attending several of the monthly meetings. Initially I took on the Secretary role before becoming the alba Treasurer in May '07. I am enjoying being part of team of interesting and talented women committed to a business and networking organisation for lesbian women.

In my working life I am a Health Professional with my own practice in Auckland.

Tamina

Tamina I heard a rumour that alba had undergone a lot of rebranding and changes in the last year, so I thought I'd pop along after work to see if that rumour was true - and yes it was! I was really surprised to find out that alba is now less of an organisation for business women and more of an early evening social event where women can get together, chat and be entertained. I thought, now wouldn't it be great if more young women like myself were networking in our community? So I joined the committee to help get the word out.

I am currently the youngest and cheekiest member of the committee (still in my twenties - yay) and I can always be spotted hanging out with newcomers and giving out random hugs to women who attend alba. I don't get to do a lot of hugging by day because I work as a corporate litigation lawyer for a large commercial law firm in the city (long hours, no hugs, but I still love it).
